The Training |
|
Part one, classroom: In the classroom training, we present a power point that covers the ASME A17.4-1999 with video on Firefighters’ service. The elevator code calls for the testing of phase I and phase II Firefighters’ Emergency Service on a monthly basis. This training will show you how to do the tests to keep in compliance with the elevator code. Referenced in ASME A17.1-2004 part 8 Part two, hands-on training: After the classroom portion, our program provides hands-on training on an elevator that is preselected in your jurisdiction. It is up to the local emergency personnel to preselect the building and set it up with the owner or manager. Training on newer equipment is preferred, as these elevators will have the emergency unlocking devices installed and firefighters emergency service as taught in class. Hands-on training consists of showing how to safely gain access to the elevator hoistway and elevator car. How to ascertain which emergency procedure should be used. For example: Is the elevator: 1) at or near floor level? 2) 3” to 3’ from floor level? 3) over 3’ from floor level? The objective is elevator safety. Another equally important objective is to minimize damage to the elevator equipment. Even though elevator repair is very expensive, the conditions will dictate if forcible entry is required and if so, we can show emergency personnel how to do it correctly. We finish the hands-on portion with firefighters’ emergency service training where we show the different functions that could assist with a fire emergency, such as evacuating people from the building, gaining full control of the elevator and locking off at the floor with the medical emergency.
